The unprecedented event of August 5th, 2024, marked a sudden and drastic transition in Bangladesh’s political landscape. On this fateful day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was compelled to leave the country, under pressure from the armed forces. This moment of upheaval paved the way for an unelected interim government, headed by Dr. Muhammad Younus, a figure renowned internationally for his microcredit work through Grameen Bank, but controversial in this sudden political role. This change, imposed upon the nation, ignited a deep and divisive shift in public sentiment, particularly among groups with anti-Bangabandhu (Sheikh Mujibur Rahman), anti-Liberation War, and anti-Bengalee inclinations.
What followed was a chaotic eruption of violence, led by an unruly mob primarily composed of opportunistic individuals and so-called Gen-Z students, alongside factions historically defeated in our great Liberation War. These forces launched an assault on the very symbols of our national identity—destroying sculptures, names, and signs commemorating Bangabandhu, the Liberation War, and their associated institutions, including websites dedicated to preserving this vital heritage.
The most heart-wrenching of these acts was the burning of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at 32, Dhanmondi, Dhaka—Bangabandhu’s iconic home and a place deeply intertwined with our nation’s history. With its destruction, we were once again plunged into a state reminiscent of the post-1975 era when the legacy of Bangabandhu was exiled from the public consciousness. On the so-called “36th of July 2024,” this symbolic erasure reached a disturbing peak, turning a victorious and proud nation into one seemingly deprived of its founding father.
Yet, the fight to preserve our history, culture, and identity is far from over. The legacy of our Liberation Movement, the heroic struggles of our leaders—Bhashani, Suhrawardy, Bangabandhu, Tajuddin, Syed Nazrul, Kamaruzzaman, Monsur Ali, and General Osmani— remain the cornerstone of our nation’s pride and inspiration for future generations. The Bangabandhu Memorial Museum was more than just a building; it was the beating heart of the nation, embodying our shared history and the spirit of our independence.
In the wake of this tragic destruction, a new hope emerges through this website—a beacon for all those committed to preserving the truth and legacy of Bangladesh’s hard-earned history. Established by a group of patriotic and forward-looking young citizens, this website serves as a digital fortress, safeguarding the memories, contributions, and symbols of our Liberation War and the leadership of Bangabandhu. It stands resilient against attempts to erase or rewrite our history, ensuring that future generations will always have access to the truth.
This website stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of Bangladesh and its people, committed to ensuring that the legacy of our past continues to inspire and guide our future.
